Isles of Scilly Bat Group

Looking out for bats on Scilly

The Isles of Scilly Bat Group was formed in December 2006. There are currently over 40 members, mostly on the islands but some on the mainland. The Group is affiliated to the Bat Conservation Trust. The chair is Darren Hart and the Secretary is Carol Williams.

They promote bat conservation in the Isles of Scilly by:

- providing an informal forum for those in the islands interested in bats to meet, learn about bats and to exchange information;
- providing general information about bats to the public and responding to enquires from the public;
- accumulating reliable information about bats in the islands and, where appropriate, initiating further research for that purpose;
- raising funds, where necessary, to assist in achieving the above aims;
- and provide a pool of expertise from which to recruit people to be trained as volunteer wardens who may contribute to bat conservation.

We work in liaison with Natural England, Bat Conservation Trust, professional ecologists, the Isles of Scilly Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty Partnership, the Council of the Isles of Scilly, the Isles of Scilly Wildlife Trust, and the Duchy of Cornwall.

A membership application form can be found here or email Carol (secretary) on carol.bat@btinternet.com.
